Dr. Vaala completed her Ph.D. in Communication Studies at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania in 2011. Sarah is interested in the educational and health implications of media in the lives of children and adolescents, as well as the ways caregivers perceive and make decisions about their children’s media use.

Dr. Herr-Stephenson is a media researcher focused on teaching and learning with popular culture and technology. She earned her Ph.D. from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California in 2008.
Currently, Becky is a Research Associate for the Children, Youth, and Media research and design track at the Annenberg Innovation Lab at USC. Her position is jointly supported by the Cooney Center and the Innovation Lab; therefore, her current research aims to bridge the goals of both organizations and focuses on participatory learning for elementary school students.
