Games for Change Annual Festival (G4C)
May 24 - 26, 2010 | New York, NY
Open to public: Yes
Fee: Yes
Called “an early Sundance of video games” for “socially-responsible game-designers” the Games for Change Annual Festival brings together leading nonprofit organizations, experts, and game developers to explore the increasing real-world impact of digital games as an agent for social change. The Festival is also a showcase for some of the most innovative new games in development.
The 7th Annual Games for Change Festival was highly successful. Our executive Director, Michael H. Levine, gave the closing keynote for the Games for Learning Day, organized by G4LI. Highlights are available here.
Levine recalled that “Sesame Street”—now the most studied property in the history of children’s media—was both on the cover of Time Magazine and banned in Mississippi within the first six months of its premiere, reminding the audience that we should think about the mental and developmental routes of the children’s media movement as we look toward its future. Levine described the work of the Cooney Center, which focuses on middle childhood (5-11 year olds), studying old and new literacies, underserved populations, and learning ecologies across formal and informal settings.
