On February 7, 2012 The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) Foundation, in collaboration with The Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE), and The California Endowment announced The Education Challenge Grant for K-12 educators seeking to incorporate computer and video games into their curricula.

The ESA Foundation is offering a new grant award opportunity to schools in the United States who best demonstrate the ability to innovatively integrate the use of computer and video games into their curriculum. All schools wanting to utilize computers and video games to strengthen their current curricular offerings or create new learning experiences for their students are encouraged to apply. Winners will be chosen based on the following guidelines and awarded funding to implement their project in the classroom, grade, school, or district in 2012.

All proposals must:

● Be submitted by a teacher, administrator, or other educator in the K–12 range;

● Include a budget and timeline for implementation;

● Describe in detail how the funds will be used and the number of students and teachers expected to participate in the first year;

● Describe in detail how the game will address specific learning objectives or challenges; facing educators;

● Include a description of how an existing game will be incorporated into traditional instruction;

● Identify clear goals and metrics to be used in determining success as well as the evaluation methods to be used to demonstrate whether or not these objectives are met;

● Describe why the proposed use of computer and video games is original.
